JEE dropper timetable with coaching: a full week, hour by hour

Who it's for: JEE dropper in a morning coaching batch, preparing for both JEE Main 2027 sessions and JEE Advanced 2027

Exam facts last verified

TL;DR

This JEE dropper timetable assumes a five-hour morning coaching batch, Monday to Saturday. Each class day adds 5 hours 15 minutes of self-study: class sheet, one weak chapter, mixed questions and an error log. Sunday has a 3-hour paper at 9 AM and a free afternoon. Self-study droppers get a morning deep block instead.

What this timetable assumes

  • Coaching is a morning dropper batch from 08:30 to 13:30, Monday to Saturday, with 30 minutes of travel each way. If your batch runs at other times, move the coaching block and keep the self-study blocks in the order shown.
  • Sleep is 22:30 to 06:00 on weeknights (7 hours 30 minutes) and 22:30 to 06:45 before Sunday's paper (8 hours 15 minutes).
  • Self-study is 5 hours 15 minutes on Monday to Friday, 3 hours 30 minutes on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday (including the paper and its analysis): about 34 hours 45 minutes a week on top of 30 hours of class. These are our planning figures, not an official or recommended number.
  • The day's class sheet is capped at 2 hours, timed; unfinished sheets move to Saturday's 15:15 block.
  • The 17:45 repair block (1 hour 30 minutes) works through the weak chapters from your own audit of last year's papers, one chapter at a time, weakest subject first.
  • The Sunday paper is a 3-hour JEE Main-format paper at 09:00: your coaching's weekly test if it runs then, otherwise a full paper written at home. If the test is held at the centre, swap the desk set-up block for travel.
  • Paper start times follow the JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1 shift timings for Paper 1 (09:00 and 15:00) and the JEE (Advanced) 2026 paper timings (09:00 and 14:30) until the 2027 bulletin and brochure are out.
  • Meals take 30 minutes (breakfast), 45 minutes (lunch) and 1 hour (dinner); exercise is a 30-minute walk or stretching every day.
  • The grid is the mid-October to mid-December week. The changes for later months are in the table under 'How should the week change between January and May?'.
  • Self-study variant: with no coaching, the 08:00 to 14:00 stretch becomes a 09:00 to 12:00 deep block on a repair chapter plus a 12:30 to 13:30 lecture or reading block, the afternoon sheet block becomes timed problems on the morning's chapter, and the 17:45 repair block becomes free time. That comes to about 7 hours 45 minutes of self-study on a weekday.
  • From mid-December, Wednesday 15:00 to 18:00 becomes a second weekly paper; from February, every other Sunday becomes a JEE Advanced-style paper pair, and after Session 2 every Sunday does, with the evening after the pair kept off. Mid-December, February and the other phase boundaries are our planning choices.
  • If you live in a hostel or PG, 'family time' at dinner and on Sunday means friends or a call home.

How does a coaching dropper split the day between class and self-study?

About 5 hours of class and 5 hours 15 minutes of self-study on each class day, with every afternoon block given one job. Coaching sets the pace through the syllabus; the afternoon turns lectures into solved questions and repairs last year's weak chapters.

Day typeDaysClassSelf-studyPaper and analysis (inside self-study)
Monday–Friday55 h5 h 15 min—
Saturday15 h3 h 30 min—
Sunday1—5 h4 h 30 min
Week730 h34 h 45 min4 h 30 min

These are planning figures, not a target. Two rules keep the afternoon honest. The class sheet gets two timed hours, and whatever is left goes to Saturday's 15:15 block. The 17:45 repair block never gives way to coaching homework: the batch re-teaches the syllabus in its own order, not in the order of your gaps. When class overruns, cut the 20:15 mixed-questions block first, then shorten the repair block to 45 minutes. The error log and the 22:30 lights-out stay.

Why do the practice papers start at 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM?

Because in JEE Main 2026 Session 1, Paper 1 ran in two shifts, 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 to 6:00 PM, and you won't know your own shift until the admit card arrives. NTA hasn't published the JEE (Main) 2027 bulletin yet, so this timetable keeps the 2026 times until it does.

NTA's tentative calendar (public notice of 16 September 2026) lists Session 1 on 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day, and says the dates may change. For 2026, each candidate's centre, date and shift were as shown on the admit card. So the Sunday paper sits at 9:00, and from mid-December a Wednesday paper starts at 3:00 PM. A morning batch that ends at 13:30 leaves just enough room for lunch before a 15:00 start. The JEE Main 2027 countdown tracks the dates as NTA confirms them.

What changes if you're a self-study dropper?

Replace the class morning with a 3-hour deep block from 9:00 to 12:00 and keep the rest of the frame. Without a batch, nothing outside you sets the pace, so the morning block carries the repair chapters and the 17:45 repair block becomes free time.

Keep the lecture slot to one hour; if you're re-watching lectures for a chapter you already know, switch to problems.

How should the week change between January and May?

Keep the frame and change what three slots hold: the 17:45 block, one weekday afternoon and Sunday. Only Session 1 has dates so far: NTA's calendar runs to March 2027, and the IITs haven't announced JEE Advanced 2027.

PeriodChange to the grid
Now to mid-DecemberAs shown: the 17:45 block repairs last year's weak chapters
Mid-December to 21 JanuaryWednesday 15:00–18:00 becomes a full paper in place of the sheet and repair blocks; analyse it in Thursday's repair block
Session 1 (22–24 and 28–30 January, tentative)No new chapters from mid-January; once the admit card shows your shift, set your wake-up time by it
February to Session 2 (expected April)The 17:45 block moves to multi-concept, Advanced-level problems; keep Wednesday's Main paper and make every other Sunday an Advanced pair
Session 2 to JEE Advanced (expected May)Every Sunday is a paper pair, 09:00–12:00 and 14:30–17:30, with the evening off; analysis moves to Monday afternoon

The pair copies 2026: JEE (Advanced) 2026 was held on Sunday, 17 May, with Paper 1 from 09:00 to 12:00 IST and Paper 2 from 14:30 to 17:30 IST, and writing both was compulsory. Session 2 in 2026 ran on 2 and 4–8 April; its last day was 39 days before Advanced. If coaching stops classes before an exam, switch to the self-study version. The JEE dropper study plan sets out what each phase should achieve.

Where do rest and the lighter day fit in?

Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon are off, and the week keeps at least 7.5 hours of sleep a night, 30 minutes of exercise a day and meals away from the desk. The drop year runs from now to May, so the week has to be one you can repeat for seven months.

The rest is placed on purpose. The Saturday evening off comes before Sunday's paper, so you write it rested. Sunday's free afternoon starts only after the analysis, so the paper is closed before you switch off. If you dread Sunday papers or sleep badly for more than a week, tell someone you trust and lighten a weekday before you cut sleep.

Frequently asked questions

Coaching ke saath dropper ko kitne ghante self-study karni chahiye?

There's no official figure. This timetable plans 5 hours 15 minutes of self-study on each weekday class day and about 34 hours 45 minutes a week, on top of 30 hours of class. Treat that as a starting point: if the class sheet and error log are done early, keep the spare time free rather than adding blocks.

My coaching batch is in the afternoon. How do I use this timetable?

Swap the halves. Put yesterday's class sheet and the repair block in the morning, from 09:00 to 12:30, which also covers the 2026 first-shift hours. Keep lunch and rest before class, and after class do only recall, the error log and tomorrow's tasks. The Sunday paper and the Saturday evening off stay where they are.

Should a JEE dropper study late at night?

This timetable doesn't: lights out is 22:30 for 7.5 hours of sleep. JEE Main 2026 Session 1 shifts ran 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 to 6:00 PM, and the JEE Advanced 2026 papers ran 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 17:30 IST, so your hardest practice belongs in daylight hours.

JEE Main 2027 Session 1 kab hai?

NTA's tentative exam calendar (public notice, 16 September 2026) lists 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day. Session 2 isn't on the calendar yet; in 2026 it ran on 2 and 4–8 April. In 2026, each candidate's date and shift came on the admit card, so plan as if the first listed day is yours.
