JEE timetable for Class 12 with boards: a school and coaching week

Who it's for: Class 12 CBSE science (PCM) student with school six days a week and offline JEE coaching three evenings, writing JEE Main 2027 Session 1 and the 2027 boards

Exam facts last verified

TL;DR

This week fits about 24 hours of self-study around school and three coaching evenings: a 45-minute board-writing slot every weekday, a full JEE paper on Saturday at 3:00 PM and a light Sunday. Before JEE Main Session 1 (tentatively 22–30 January 2027) and the boards, keep the times and change what fills each slot.

What this timetable assumes

  • School runs 08:00–14:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00–12:30 on Saturday, with 30 minutes' travel each way. Timings vary a lot between schools; replace them with yours.
  • Offline JEE coaching on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 16:30–19:30, with 30 minutes' travel each way. If your batch runs on other days, swap the Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday patterns.
  • Sleep is 8 hours: 22:00–06:00 on school nights and 22:30–06:30 from Saturday to Sunday.
  • Self-study comes to about 24 hours 15 minutes a week on top of 9 hours of coaching: about 17 h 30 min of JEE work, 5 h 15 min of board-format writing and 1 h 30 min of NCERT reading counted for both. These are our planning figures, not recommendations from NTA or CBSE.
  • Slot lengths are our planning choices, not rules: a 30-minute morning recall, a 45-minute board slot Monday to Friday, a 90-minute deep block on Tuesday and Thursday and 90 minutes of board writing on Sunday. Shorten or lengthen them to suit your stamina.
  • One full JEE paper a week costs about 5 h 30 min: 3 hours to write it, 1 hour of first-pass analysis the same evening and 90 minutes of redos on Sunday.
  • The grid is the October–December week. In January and February the clock times stay the same and only the contents of the slots change (see the slot table below); alternating the weekly paper between Saturday 15:00 and Sunday 09:00 from 1 January is our suggestion, based on the 2026 shift times.
  • JEE Main 2027 is assumed to follow the 2026 pattern and shift times until NTA publishes the 2027 information bulletin.
  • CBSE boards are assumed to start around mid-February 2027, as they did in 2026 (17 February), with Physics again roughly three weeks after Session 1 ends. CBSE's 7 October 2026 notice for private candidates places the 2026-27 main exams in February–April 2027, but the 2027 date sheet and practical dates weren't out when we checked on 12 October 2026.
  • Sunday afternoon and Saturday evening are kept free on purpose; Sunday is the lighter day.

How does this week fit JEE, boards, school and coaching?

It gives about 24 hours a week to self-study on top of school and 9 hours of coaching: roughly 17½ hours of JEE work, 5¼ hours of board-format writing and 1½ hours of NCERT reading that serves both. All figures are planning assumptions.

Coaching evenings stay thin: one timed hour on that day's sheet, leftovers starred. The real self-study happens on Tuesday and Thursday, the afternoons without coaching: recall replays the previous day's lecture, and the 90-minute deep block clears the starred questions before your weakest chapter. Sleep stays at 8 hours.

Why is there a board slot on every weekday?

Because board marks are earned in writing, and that skill fades if it only gets weekends. CBSE's 2026-27 sample papers are 3-hour papers worth 70 marks in Physics and 80 in Mathematics, and each notes no change in the question paper design this session, so last year's papers are fair practice.

The 45-minute slot sits after lunch and before coaching, Monday to Friday, while you're still in school mode: homework first, then one NCERT derivation, labelled diagram or past board question answered in full. Saturday gives that time to the JEE paper instead. On Sunday the slot grows to 90 minutes and starts at 10:30 AM, the time CBSE's 2026 board papers began, so that clock is familiar long before February.

Why does the JEE paper sit on Saturday at 3:00 PM?

Because it's a real exam time. In 2026, NTA held JEE Main Paper 1 in two shifts, 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and a half day of school on Saturday (our assumption) leaves the afternoon shift free.

You also learn your shift late. In 2026 the admit cards, which show the shift, came out on 17 January for the 21–24 January exams and on 24 January for 28–29 January. So from 1 January, alternate: Saturday at 3:00 PM one week, Sunday at 9:00 AM the next, with the board writing moved to that afternoon. Analyse each paper the same evening, while you still remember why you chose each answer.

What changes in January, when practicals and Session 1 overlap?

The clock stays; the contents change. NTA's tentative calendar lists JEE Main 2027 Session 1 on 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer. In 2026, CBSE's practical window for regular-session schools was 1 January to 14 February, and Session 1 (21–30 January) fell inside it. The 2027 practical dates aren't out, so ask your school for practical and pre-board dates now.

If a practical or pre-board lands on a coaching evening, drop that night's coaching sheet, not your sleep.

What happens to the grid after your last JEE paper?

Flip the weights the next morning: board work takes the deep blocks and the weekend papers, and JEE shrinks to the morning recall plus one short timed set a day. CBSE hasn't released the 2027 date sheet. In 2026 its exams started on 17 February, with Physics on 20 February, Chemistry on 28 February, Mathematics on 9 March and English Core on 12 March. If 2027 looks similar, you get about three weeks between Session 1 and your Physics paper: enough for timed papers, not for first-time learning, which is why the board slot runs all autumn.

JEE Main Session 2 isn't on NTA's calendar yet, since it only runs to March 2027; in 2026 the second session was in April, so keep the daily JEE set going. For the month-by-month split of hours, see the boards and JEE balance guide.

How do you adjust it to your own school and coaching hours?

Move the fixed blocks first (school, coaching, travel), then protect three things in this order: sleep, the weekday board slot and the weekly full paper. When a day is short, cut the NCERT reading or the error-log block before any of those.

  • Coaching on weekends instead: give Monday to Friday the Tuesday/Thursday pattern, aimed at the weekend's lectures, and put the full paper on a free weekend afternoon.
  • School until 3:00 PM: shorten the board slot to 30 minutes on coaching days and lengthen it to an hour on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Not sure the hours are enough: add up your remaining chapters in the study hours calculator first.

Frequently asked questions

Coaching aur school ke saath board ki practice kab karein?

In a 45-minute slot after lunch from Monday to Friday, before you leave for coaching, plus 90 minutes at 10:30 AM on Sunday. In this plan that adds up to about 5 hours a week of written board practice, enough to keep derivations and long answers sharp without taking JEE time.

Should I miss school in January to prepare for JEE Main?

Not before you know your practical dates. In 2026, CBSE's practical window for regular-session schools ran from 1 January to 14 February, overlapping JEE Main Session 1 (21–30 January 2026). CBSE hasn't announced the 2027 window yet, so ask your school for your practical and pre-board dates and plan January around them.

Mera JEE Main shift pata nahi hai, mock kis time par doon?

Alternate between the two 2026 shift times, 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In 2026 the admit cards, which show the shift, came out four to seven days before each exam day, so from January write one paper at 3:00 PM on Saturday and the next at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

Is 24 hours of self-study a week enough for JEE Main with coaching?

It's a planning assumption, not a target. With 9 hours of coaching it comes to about 33 hours of study a week next to a full school timetable. Whether that's enough depends on how many chapters you still have to finish, so add them up before adding hours, and take any extra from free time, never from sleep.

Will this timetable change when the JEE Main 2027 bulletin comes out?

Only if the pattern or shift times change. The grid uses the 2026 shift times because NTA hadn't published the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin when we checked on 12 October 2026; the Session 1 dates come from NTA's tentative exam calendar of 16 September 2026.
